About Me
born and raised in Hawaii;met my wife (Brampton) and got married in Hawaii ,and came to Canada in 1982. She was getting her BA in Business,specialising in Hotel/Restaurant Mngt., from the Uof Hawaii; I also received my MSW from the Uof Hawaii, Manoa campus. Before meeting Judy, and after high school, was very involved with church music;decided to go to a private bible college, Springfield, Mo; after a BA in Religous Ed.,joined the US Army, to avoid being drafted,became trained as a nurse;toured Vietnam,worked in an evacuation hospital, in the ER, kinda like MASH.After army, went back to a sister-like college of the bible college, in costa mesa, calif., and graduated with an honours psychology degree, BA from souther california college;putting my psy degree to work,moved in with one of my best friends from bible college,who lived in Oakland;he provided the opportunity to come in contact with mental health population,in a private psy hospital,in the mission district of San Francisco;did that for 2 years, went back to Hawaii;along the way,became involved with the whole race identity issues,when the book Roots came out;became a social activist in San Fran--demonstrated against the 4 Seasons Hotel, evicting seniors and limited income families;got in touch with my filipino heritage by taking a philippine history course from the local college;eventually was in a play of filipino immigrants to hawaii,, califl,washington;so used that experience with the mental health to focus on my MSW at Uof Hawaii; Judy and I met in the UCC church choir on a blind date;set up by the minister's daughter,saying the choir was meeting for a social at the local jazz club;nobody showed up;we had a great time,got to know something about canada--typical stereotypes;interest bloomed;i had just completed my first honolulu marathon whe i met judy;she expressed interest,and we both finished together in the next marathon,the year before we got married;she continues to run,most recently for the MSH, at the angus glen 1/2 marathon/10K event in nov.2009; along the way,3 children;a daughter in Hawaii,a son at York U.,4th year in Kineseology;and the youngest, 18,doing a"victory lap in high school, in Newmarket,which is where judy, alex, and i live.Aloha for now--hope this didn't bore you!Currently working at MSH as a community mental health coordinator--this where i met paul--he hired me!
